ZIA
$7.00

GOODS
Rowan Summer Tweed (108m/118yds), shown in Summer Berry(A)(shade 537), 4 skeins, Smoulder(B)(shade 522), 3 skeins, Torrid(C)(shade 536), 2 skeins, Toast(D)(shade 530), 2 skeins. Knitting needles, #10(6mm); this project works best with the longest circular needles to accommodate the large number of stitches; tapestry needle.

MEASURE 18”(46cm) width x 108”(274cm) length, including tassels. One size fits most; if desired, shorten by casting on fewer sts keeping the count as a multiple of two.

GAUGE: 12 sts x 14 rows = 4”x 4” (10cm x 10cm) in pattern stitch. This gauge produces a light open-weave shawl, which is necessary for proper garment drape; adjust your needles accordingly. You will want the wrap to have some body, yet not be too rigid, so swatch a bit first to find a weight that appeals to you

Pattern Stitches: Zia’s stitch pattern mimics textural garments found throughout many world cultures, especially the rebozo of Mexico. This multi-tasking body covering, can be used for everything from hoisting babies on your hip to headcover in a tropical downpour. I envisioned an urban version of the original. This interpretation simulates a woven pattern used near a village in Jalisco where I spent time teaching in the early 1970’s. Created with variations of predominantly knit stitch, Zia proves that even the simplest of stitches, when used in intriguing color combinations and with a sensual yarn, can create something lovely and complex.

ZIA...uncover your gypsy girl soul with this shawl whose accommodating length allows the wearer to wrap and drape it in a multitude of ways. Fabricated in a rustic silk blend yarn and finished off with oversized tassels in the spicy, earthy colors of the Latin “tierra”.

Once this stitch pattern is learned, it’s easy to make this pattern in a sensuous kidsilk mohair for the cooler months.

With Daphne you will learn some basic stitches used frequently in openwork and lace: yarn-over, knitting multiple stitches together, and working stitches into yarn-overs.

DAPHNE...a silken embrace with a rustic touch, has just enough of the wild side in her to remind us that we women are all, at heart, both tender and tough. Deliciously sexy fringe elevates this wrap to the next level of glamour; Dahpne is something we could all toss on at a moment’s notice to elevate a soft-spoken outfit to one that sings with passion.
